Animal Control Officer

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for carrying out tasks required to enforce animal and rabies control and licensing regulations. Patrols city areas to pick up stray or trapped animals, unrestrained animals, reptiles, unlicensed dogs and dead animals. Must be willing to adopt and exhibit the City of Brownwood “I SERVE” Core Values.
EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC WORK PERFORMED:
1. Routine patrol in assigned vehicle, to pick up dead animals, stray or trapped animals, unrestrained animals, reptiles and unlicensed dogs.
2. Enforce ordinances governing animal control including writing citations and testifying in court proceedings.
3. Investigate complaints of dogs or other animals that are creating a nuisance.
4. Answer questions and educate the public regarding animal control laws, ordinances, licensing and disposal of animals.
5. Assist with rabies control work.
6. Stay in contact with Police Department and Animal Shelter personnel using two-way radio communication; and laptop computer for additional calls or complaints.
7. Serve as liaison between the Police Department and animal shelter.
8. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Salary: $17.07/Hour
