Job Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Vocational Nursing or certified as a Medical Assistant.
Personal Job-Related Skills: Effective oral and written communication skills.
Licensure, Registry or Certification: Licensed Vocational Nurse currently licensed by the State of Texas or Certified Medical Assistant currently certified by the State of Texas.
Experience: Technical Training-Current CPR certification.
Physical and Mental Requirements: Duties of the position require extended periods of standing and walking. Bending, stooping, twisting, reaching and lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasional heavy lifting when moving or supporting patients who may suddenly become weak or helpless
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs and documents laboratory tests in a clinic setting.
Performs urine dip stick for protein, glucose, bilirubin, ketones, specific gravity, blood, PH, urobilinogen nitrate, and leukocytes.
Collects blood samples by finger stick using aseptic technique for HCT and capillary blood glucose.
Performs urine HCG pregnancy tests as directed.
Obtains and accurately labels specimens for laboratory tests.
Provides clinic services and care for patients.
Takes and records blood pressure readings, weight and length measurements.
Assists physicians and prepares patients for various types of examinations and procedures.
As directed by a physician, administers specific drugs or medications either orally or by injection and observes patient for reactions.
Instructs patients and family members regarding treatments and follow-up care.
Applies or changes dressings as requested.
Assists physician with minor surgical procedures performed in the clinic.
Performs basic life support skills in an emergency situation.
Provides care appropriate for the pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients served based on demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
Assesses and interprets data on pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients 'status to identify patients' requirements relative to their age-specific needs and provides care needed as stipulated in departmental policy.
Maintains patient files.
Prior to examination, obtains subjective information related to patient's perception of health
Collects necessary information received concerning x-ray and laboratory reports, data from referring physicians, and surgical or other procedure reports for the patient's files.
Enters medications and drugs administered and any reaction into the files.
Handles referrals and orders prescription refills.
Receives and leaves messages as required and keeps physician advised.
Maintains supplies and equipment.
Insures that inventory of necessary supplies and equipment is maintained for diagnostic and treatment procedures.
Is responsible for stock supplies in exam room and assures their cleanliness.
Cleans and sterilizes surgical instruments, labels the type of instrument and records the date.
All other duties as assigned.
Other Significant Requirements:
Maintains HIPAA required and all other confidentiality while working with confidential while working with confidential matters on a daily basis.
Provides service direct to patients while maintaining a positive patient relations atmosphere.
Interacts with patients, family members, Medical Staff members and other department managers on a continuous basis.
Follows aseptic procedures and procedures for using precautions when involved in direct patient contact or handling potentially infectious materials.
Follows the safety and infection control guidelines and policies of the clinic.
