Master’s degree and a State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) Professional School Counselor Certificate or
Intern Probationary Certificate eligibility: (1) have a Bachelor’s degree or higher and (2) Applicant MUST submit a letter from the college/university/ESC with the application indicating enrollment in the School Counselor certification program to meet Intern Probationary School Counselor certificate. (Applicant must include a letter from a university confirming that the applicant is eligible for a Texas Intern or Probationary School Counselor certificate upon hire for a Counselor position with the District.)
Job Responsibilities: Identify, assess, and enroll students in programming most conducive to their educational needs. Maintain suitable number of students per class by placing students in appropriate programs. Counsel students regarding educational decisions and disseminate program information. Maintain status as GED examiner, and coordinate the unit testing program, including but not limited to GED, educational achievement (EA), and vocational testing, as warranted. Assist the principal with the provision of staff development. Serve as representative of administration, as appropriate, for Admission, Review and Dismissal committees and any other committees determining student placement.
